In 1374, amid the turmoil of the continuing conflict between the Southern and Northern Courts, Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, the Northern Court’s shogun, was steadily consolidating his power. Oniyasha was a boy born to Kan’ami, the leader of the Kanze troupe, which performed sarugaku.
